refugee resettlement system, and eliminated asylum protections. While President
Biden promises change, we have a long way to go to repair our immigration

When the previous administration reduced refugee admissions, refugee
resettlement organizations — which welcome refugees and help them find housing
and support in their new communities — also shrank. Groups like HIAS must now
rebuild our capacity to welcome new arrivals, a process that will take months of
hard work.

Years of anti-refugee restrictions have diminished the ability of resettlement
organizations to hire staff who speak the languages and understand the needs of
refugee communities. HIAS is doing all we can to expand our capacity to meet the
