Over the weekend, Donald Trump became the first president to be acquitted for impeachment twice. The Senate Republicans chose to ignore their duty to the Constitution and to our democracy by letting Trump off the hook for inciting a violent insurrection on our nation’s Capitol.
We here at Go for Broke for Vets believe in our democracy and are appalled that Republicans chose their own party over our country’s values.
Now, Trump can run again in 2024. That means he won’t be held accountable for inciting an insurrection. We will be dealing with the repercussions of the Senate’s actions for years to come and there is no telling what it will do to the foundation of our country.
As we look forward, we must be even more diligent and even more focused on holding these Senators accountable for choosing party over country yet again. We can vote them out in 2022, but we must stick together and start our work now.
