Team,
Every Black History Month we celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black leaders — from Martin Luther King to Harriet Tubman, Shirley Chisholm to Vice President Kamala Harris.
But this month, it’s critical that we honor their legacies in a different way — continuing the fight to uplift and empower the Black community.
Senators Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and John Kennedy, just to name a few, are more focused on keeping their seats in 2022 than doing their jobs. It’s politics over accountability. Party over country. Trump over unity.
Last year, in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, the Black Lives Matter movement shined the light on police brutality and the systemic injustices the Black community faces. We witnessed the Trump administration support white supremacists as Black working people and families bore the brunt of the pandemic and a crumbling economy.
And we saw the Republican party (once again) fight to disenfranchise millions of Black voters.
Here’s the bottom line — Black History Month can never be the same. We can’t stand on the sidelines any longer. This month we ask that you commemorate BHM by supporting Black-owned businesses, donate to charities that support anti-racism, equity, and equality — such as the Black Youth Project and Loveland Therapy Fund — and find ways to get involved in your community.
With your support, we will treat every month as Black History Month until the day comes where racial injustice is no more. Let’s do this.
