I started BACKROADS PAC last month because I saw first-hand why rural Democrats need to invest in rural districts like mine. In a moment, I am going to ask you to contribute to our movement, but first, I want to tell you why it matters.

When I talk to folks, one of the things I hear most often is, “Tedra, we contributed to Democrats in 2020 and now we need a break.” I get that, I really do. But, the stakes for 2022 are too high to stop now.

The Democratic majorities in the House and Senate are razor-thin and this year, Republican state legislatures in charge of redistricting could tip the balance in their favor. If we let Republicans take over Congress, the second half of Biden’s presidency will be marked by division and inaction.

Democrats MUST expand the map in 2022 to hold the majority, so investing in rural Democrats is absolutely imperative. While the next election seems far away, it’s important to remember that Republicans have spent decades on rural voter outreach. We’re running out of time to build the infrastructure to compete next year.

Biden will need more than two years to repair the destruction of the Trump presidency and get our country back on track. If Democrats don’t win next year, that will be impossible.
