Dear friend,
Today, I’m reaching out regarding HIAS’ work to help refugees and asylum seekers in Guyana, where the pandemic has made a bad situation even worse for the rapidly growing displaced population.
Nearly 22,000 Venezuelans — more than half of them women — have taken refuge in Guyana, and that number is rising every day. To meet this pressing, growing need, HIAS opened offices in Guyana last year to address human trafficking, gender-based violence, challenges from the pandemic, and the lack of basic services in the region, even venturing deep into remote areas to deliver much-needed services to refugees living in poor conditions.
With Guyana closing formal entry points and no longer issuing residence permits, HIAS will be there to provide refugees with the resources and support they need in their quest for safety — and we’re counting on you to join us in this crucial work. Please, your support will go a long way for the families who have left everything behind and urgently need our help:
Right now, HIAS Guyana is providing refugees with mental health services, support for gender-based violence, and other vital aid. Every dollar we raise today will help us supply information technology to the community, set up English classes, and hire Spanish translators. Your support will also help us introduce community resources — including a tool library — so people can farm and build homes.
In 2021 our work to help those who need it most is as vital as ever, and HIAS will never back down from supporting refugees and their families in situations of crisis around the world. But our life-changing work simply isn’t possible without your help, so we’re asking for your immediate support:
Thank you for all you do,
