Hey John, 

Heads up! You have some newly elected state legislators and it's time they hear about your priorities so they can act on them.

With January 20 this country got not only a new administration, but new opportunities to advocate for many policy changes. Some of them include reducing the harms of the criminal legal system. As legislative sessions are reconvening, remind your state legislators that shrinking the criminal legal system MUST be a priority!

You have the opportunity to push your legislature for policies that reduce the harms of the justice system. Throughout the country, people like you have voted to fix a criminal legal system that disproportionately affects young people.

Your DC legislators and governor can:

• End mandatory minimums
• Shorten terms of probation and parole to 1-2 years
• Decriminalize or reclassify certain crimes from felonies to misdemeanors
• End cash bail
• End life without parole sentences

The justice system disproportionately affects young people! Tell lawmakers they have a responsibility to shrink the criminal legal system. Tell them you voted to take action to end these harms.
