We recently spoke to Leslie Odom Jr., star of Hamilton and the now-streaming One Night in Miami, about developing confidence, playing Sam Cooke, and teaching his four-year-old music appreciation. In regard to the latter, he said, “I think you just expose them to it. You just have to lay down the breadcrumbs and eventually they find it themselves.” This is sound advice — and Odom Jr. plays everything from Billie Holiday and the Beatles to Miles Davis during bath time to expose his daughter to various styles. But it applies to just about everything a parent hopes to pass down. And this was just one of the Golden Globe nominee’s pearls of parenting wisdom.
