Freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been using Facebook to spread conspiracy theories and hate speech, posing a genuine threat to the safety of her colleagues and other Americans. She has said that the 9/11 attacks were a hoax and that the Sandy Hook school shooting was a fake staged event. She has posted threatening images of other members of Congress. Facebook must make it clear that this violent content should not be allowed on their platform -- no exceptions. That’s why, today, we’re announcing that we’ve joined 16 other organizations calling on Facebook to deplatform Rep. Taylor Greene to prevent further violence.

Rep. Taylor Greene has repeatedly abused and exploited Facebook to spread and amplify hate speech, dangerous conspiracies, and calls for the death of her colleagues in Congress. Her rhetoric helped incite a violent attempted coup on the United States of America and will continue to incite violence and harm against others unless she is stopped.

Here at Accountable Tech, we work every single day to hold big tech companies like Facebook accountable for the misinformation, conspiracy theories, and dangerous calls for violence that spread on their platforms. Allowing Rep. Taylor Greene to continue to abuse Facebook is yet another example of how they have failed to protect the public.
