Hey student loan borrowers and advocates,
The conversation around #CancelStudentDebt is SIZZLING this week, and we need you to keep up the collective action momentum. Today, our colleagues at the NAACP Youth & College division held a MASSIVE phone bank [[link removed]] to call Congress, and now it's our turn to pick up the baton by flooding lawmakers' inboxes.
We're not even a month into the new administration and our fight against student debt is making headway. We’ve been calling for debt cancellation for months, and with new people holding office at the White House, House, and Senate, we have a greater chance than ever of getting debt cancellation for student loan borrowers.
EMAIL CONGRESS AND THE WHITE HOUSE [[link removed]]
But clearly we don’t have cancellation yet. That’s where you come in: we need you to help demand our leaders #CancelStudentDebt.
What's at stake?
*
Today,
45
million
borrowers
are
crushed
under
more
than
$1.6
trillion
in
student
loan
debt.
*
Black
students
who
do
enroll
in
postsecondary
programs
are
significantly
more
likely
to
take
on
student
loan
debt
compared
to
their
white
counterparts.
*
Graduates
of
HBCUs
have
to
take
on
more
debt
than
their
peers
at
other
colleges.
*
Eliminating
student
loan
debt
would
narrow
the
racial
wealth
gap
for
young
families.
*
During
this
public
health
emergency,
no
person
should
have
to
choose
between
their
student
loan
payment,
putting
food
on
the
table,
or
keeping
themselves
and
their
families
safe
and
healthy.
Imagine what you could do if you were not paying down your student loans. We are closer than ever to that reality! Tell President Biden, your Senators, and your Representatives, that we need student debt cancellation NOW. [[link removed]]
