Senate Democrats just reintroduced legislation to make the District of Columbia our nation's 51st state. As the District's mayor said in the wake of insurrection at Capitol Hill:
“Just like the millions of Americans who voted nationwide and the thousands who organized and voted in Georgia, we are ready to build a more perfect union -- one in which all voices are heard, one in which we work together to uplift families in cities, and suburbs, and small towns, and one in which the 712,000 residents of Washington, D.C. have full access to our nation's democracy.”
If ratified, DC would be our nation's first nearly majority Black state and one where nearly 75% of its residents are registered Democrats. With President Joe Biden expressing support, it's clear for the first time in YEARS that DC statehood has a fighting chance. But first, we want to see what our supporters think -- please let us know:
