During the COVID crisis, working families are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Meanwhile, Wall Street is manipulating the stock market and making billions.

Hedge funds, wealthy investors, and private equity firms have always treated the stock market like their personal casino. But last week, their manipulation backfired. The Wall Street elites lost when Reddit traders beat them at their own game. Now the same elites that gambled (and lost) with our pensions and retirement funds are crying foul. It couldn’t be more clear that this system is broken and corrupt.

This isn’t the first time I’ve stood up against Wall Street. In 2019, I introduced the Reward Work Act to ban-open market stock buybacks and give workers a voice in their company. We need stronger regulations to ensure that Wall Street can’t manipulate the market for their personal gain - especially as workers all across Chicagoland are suffering the economic blows of COVID.

That’s why, as a member of the Financial Services Committee, I’m recommitting myself to ensuring the Wall Street elite are properly regulated and that our working families are always put first.
