Without Status: Asylum Seekers in Israel During the COVID-19 Crisis
February 10, 2021 | Wednesday | 2:00pm ET
In Israel, people seeking asylum have been denied status for years, which has been a source of instability for people and families. Now, during a pandemic, when access to healthcare and economic relief depends on government programs, there are unprecedented challenges for the asylum seeker community. Despite the precarious situations they have been forced into, community activists are rising to the occasion and working to lift each other up. Hear from organizers and experts from the asylum seeker community about their experience trying to find safety and refuge in Israel, and advocating for their families and communities before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Welcome to Paradise: Refugees at Home in LA with Mandana Dayani
February 16, 2021 | Tuesday | 1:00pm PT
Hear from former refugees who we welcomed to America years ago and now give back to our country and, especially, the city of Angels. Their experiences illuminate why the fight to preserve welcome is so critical, and why we must take action to advocate for robust refugee and asylum programs. You will hear from Mandana Dayani, a former HIAS client resettled from Iran who went on to become a corporate attorney, talent agent, and producer of hit shows like The Rachel Zoe Project, and later co-founded I am a voter. This program is part of the Welcome to Paradise: Refugees at Home in LA series, a partnership of HIAS and the Holocaust Museum LA.
