Tell #MNleg every working person deserves paid time to care
Dear John,
Maybe you’ve been here before.
Your child is sick. You’ve got to leave work. But there’s no one to cover your shift, and your boss is not going to be happy. Should you leave your kids home alone, or risk being fired?
Or, how about this: You just found out you’ve been exposed to COVID-19. You need time to get a test, but you can’t risk a smaller paycheck. Do you choose the health of your family and community, or paying the rent?
No Minnesotan should have to face these impossible choices. When illness or unexpected emergencies arise, every working person deserves paid time to care, no exceptions. In 2021, we can make that happen.
Email your legislators right now. Tell them to pass the Earned Sick and Safe Time bill (H.F. 7), which ensures working Minnesotans can accrue 48 hours of paid time to care for themselves or a loved one. Make sure to customize your message for the greatest impact.
This is a key moment to act. The Minnesota House will hear the bill (H.F. 7) today at 3 p.m. Watch the hearing with us and follow along on Twitter with the hashtag #MNleg.
Passing the Earned Sick and Safe Time bill is about our public health and justice for the multi-racial working class. The people most likely to face impossible choices (like the ones I described above) are women, people of color, and low-wage workers in the retail, hospitality, service, and care industries – the very same people who’ve kept our society functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Access to Earned Sick and Safe Time will make Minnesota a more just and healthy state. Tell your legislators it’s time to ensure everyone has paid time to care – no exceptions. Don’t forget to customize your message to make a strong impression.
Want to get more deeply involved? Reply to this email. I’ll make sure you get looped in.
In solidarity,
