In the 1960s, white politicians used Jim Crow laws to keep Black Americans from the ballot box.
The modern GOP -- what many are starting to call the “New Jim Crow Caucus” -- tried to go even further.
On January 6, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, Kevin McCarthy, and a total of 147 GOP legislators attempted to throw out the results of the 2020 presidential election, effectively shredding millions of votes. And they were particularly eager to overturn black votes, as conservatives have been throughout our country's history.
They failed this time.
But if the GOP takes back Congress next year, they'll be able to decide whose votes count and whose don't. And Democrats can't have victories like we did in Georgia if Republicans get to decide whose votes count.
Here at When Democrats Turn Out, we are fighting like hell to make sure every single member of the New Jim Crow Caucus loses their seat in 2022.
But this fight will be tough: Overcoming the GOP bankroll will take a lot of resources, and we can't do anything to hold them accountable without the tools we need to win. We need to raise $4,012 by midnight TONIGHT if we want to stay in this fight.
