The US Census Bureau announced this week that the first results of the 2020 Census are being delayed until late April—which means bad news for 2022 House races:
As you can probably guess, John, this makes our work more difficult. Redistricting delays not only mean that we can’t make strategic decisions as early as we thought about the 2022 House races. It also means that our current Truth to Power candidates’ seats could be in jeopardy.
Currently, there are 17 states that are likely to gain or lose a seat in redistricting, like New York state, which (according to early numbers) is most likely to lose either one or two. This means that we need to get ready for whatever comes our way—including potential fights to keep our candidates in Congress.
That’s why we’re asking for your support, John. We need to prepare for any and all possible obstacles and fights coming our way, and we need to demonstrate the strength of our grassroots-powered movement.
