Yesterday, I was named the first African American woman to Chair the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations.

My priority as Chair is to leave the era of endless wars behind by prioritizing funding for diplomacy, development, and defense in an effort to prevent conflict and wars and renew our global leadership in the world.

Much like I have always done, I will put addressing racial inequity at the forefront of every discussion and work towards bold, global solutions on issues like climate change, the pandemic, hunger, poverty, economic inequality and more.

Furthermore, I will not hesitate to work with our global allies, the United Nations, and the World Health Organization to promote welfare for all nations — ensuring America's priorities are met and that the devastating global effects of COVID-19 are under control.

It is truly an honor to serve in this role, but there is a lot of hard work ahead. Yet, I have no doubt that with your support progress is possible.
