Parliament report released today

Dear friend,

Happy 2021!

Last year our Head of Policy, Tim Jones (below) was invited to Parliament to provide evidence on debt and Covid in the global South for the International Development Committee, a group of influential MPs.

Today they have released their report. ([link removed]) Not only do they quote our campaign demands, but they have taken on our recommendations to push for more action on private lenders.

The report also calls on the government to consider options for the cancellation of debt for low- and middle-income countries.

Whilst this is just one report, the growing number of MPs supporting our campaign will help to put pressure on the government to act. With the UK chairing the upcoming G7 meeting later this year, if we keep up the pressure we can really make a difference.

None of this would be possible without all the petitions, letters to MPs and other campaigning you have been a part of.

We’re looking forward campaigning with you this year and making sure we win debt cancellation for developing countries.

As always, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during these times.

All the best,

Sarah and the JDC Team
