Centering Community College Students in Sexual & Reproductive Health Interventions:

Lessons from Texas & Mississippi

Webinar Hosted by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research

Date: February 3, 2021

Time: 2:30 pm ET / 1:30 pm CT

Join the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) for a conversation with practitioners and college students of how to improve community college student success through the promotion of their sexual and reproductive health. Understanding students’ experiences accessing care and information related to their sexual and reproductive health is important for making the case that community colleges should pay greater attention to students’ health needs. It is also essential to informing how colleges can more effectively promote their students’ health as well as their academic success.

This webinar will start by sharing new research from IWPR on the sexual and reproductive health needs and experiences of community college students in Texas and Mississippi, based on an online survey of over 500 students and a series of follow-up phone interviews.

Three practitioners serving community college students in Texas and Mississippi will then share their experiences and lessons learned from helping students get the support they need in a context of resource and access limitations. The practitioner panel will be followed by a conversation among community college students who will offer their expertise from lived experience, share what has and has not worked for them, and call out what institutions, providers, and community leaders should know to better meet their sexual and reproductive health needs.

Speakers include:

  • Josh McCawley, LinkedUP program, Teen Health Mississippi
