Federal prosecutors are leading the effort to investigate crimes and make criminal charges related to the violent insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. But according to CNN, Trump could be hamstrung by a lesser charge for inciting the insurrection: "President Donald Trump could possibly be charged by city prosecutors with 'a misdemeanor, a six-month-in-jail maximum'" in accordance with a DC city code against statements encouraging violence.

Many Americans believe that Trump should not be held responsible, especially through such a small charge, so the country can "unify" and move on. But slapping Trump with a smaller city charge might be more straightforward -- and would still provide some measure of accountability.
