Keeping Texans Safe

What to Know: Gov. Greg Abbott says he will make it fiscally impossible for cities in Texas to defund their police departments. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: Public safety should be government’s top concern.

“We know improving policing, a core function of government, is best achieved through better training and better hiring,” says TPPF’s Randy Petersen. “We applaud the governor for prioritizing this effort to ensure law enforcement can keep all Texans safe and keep Texas a law and order state.”

Improving police training is part of TPPF’s Liberty Action Agenda. Learn more here.

How Not to Do It

What to Know: President Joe Biden says he wants to make all of America more like California. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: This is a very, very bad idea.

“A quick rundown of California policy failures provides a preview of President Joe Biden’s future failures,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “California has the nation’s highest income tax. And even with all that income redistribution, it still manages to have the nation’s highest poverty rate after accounting for the state’s high cost of living and generous welfare benefits. Relatedly, California also leads the nation in the extent of its homeless problem.”

Election Integrity

What to Know: The November 2020 election revealed large gaps in election security. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: TPPF will be working with state officials and organizations to bolster the security and integrity of our election systems.

“The 2020 election has highlighted several areas in which the administration of our elections can be improved,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “The American people deserve a process that is transparent, secure, and efficient. The Constitution vests authority to administer elections in the states. The goal of the Election Protection Project will be to promote best practices to combat voter fraud and protect legitimate votes.”
