Biden's Homeland Security nominee, Alejandro Mayorkas, began his confirmation proceedings on the last day of Trump's presidency after Democrats made it clear that such top national security official confirmations are CRUCIAL given the Capitol insurrection, increased cyberattacks, and the pandemic.
But it became evident that a swift confirmation would not be happening:
The Washington Post reports: "Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), the focus of deep resentment for challenging Biden's election and helping to incite the violent mob who attacked the Capitol, moved to block the fast-track confirmation process, saying he was dissatisfied with Mayorkas's responses to questions about the Biden immigration agenda. Hawley is a member of the homeland security committee.”
Even though the state of the union is dire, it's clear that Republicans like Josh Hawley will do everything in their power to sabotage the new Biden administration. We need to make it loud and clear exactly what we think about that -- please let us know that you're joining us:
