Now that Joe Biden has assumed the presidency, Democrats officially control all three branches of our federal government. However, as a New York Times analysis bluntly put it, Republicans in the Senate "appear in no mood to cooperate."

With the Senate on his side, Biden could build his Cabinet, which is poised to be the most racially diverse in history.

He could pass his immigration plan, giving a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants.

He could pass his COVID relief package, the American Rescue Plan, and send $1,400 stimulus checks to American families.

Unfortunately, Mitch McConnell has decided to play hardball. Despite voter turnout that shattered records, he had the audacity to claim that "November's elections did not hand any side a mandate for sweeping ideological change," and he's doing everything he can to place stumbling blocks along the Democratic path forward.

We've waited so long for a chance to pass legislation like this. This is why we fought so hard to win elections in 2020 -- we needed the numbers in order to greenlight these very policies and improve the lives of millions of Americans. This is what it's always been about, and it should feel like a dream come true, but Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is still denying us our victory.
