Friend – The ACLU of Wisconsin, with your help, will be ready to be a voice in the upcoming state budget debates! On February 16, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers will introduce his 2021-2022 biennial budget, laying the foundation for what our state will look like over the next two years. We want to make sure that elected officials know what we – their constituents – want out of the next Wisconsin Budget. We don't want them to just write their own budget planning without our input. We need to lead the effort for a just and moral state budget. We need to see money invested into public benefits like education and transit, not into prisons. I know you care about what's happening to our state and our country. We've got a chance to join with other people from around the state to learn and strategize.
PART 1: BUDGET MATTERS 101 – The first hour (10 – 11 a.m.) is optional to those who've attended our Budget Action Workshops in the past, and will cover budget basics for those who are new or who could use a refresher: how a budget becomes law, what opportunities are available for public input, lessons learned in past budget organizing, and pro tips for making your voice heard during the budget process from veteran organizers. PART 2: BUDGET MATTERS 201 – The second part (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.) brings all of us together to collaborate on 2021 Budget Action. This two-hour workshop will include expert insights into the 2021-2022 budget process and political landscape, plus a workshop on making a statewide impact on our issues by delivering effective, powerful testimony that is heard widely beyond the walls of the hearing room, and building relationships to ensure that our demands become realities for our communities and our state. Our opportunities to impact these decisions take three main forms:
Please RSVP TODAY for the training, and share this link widely and encourage your friends, neighbors, and lists to attend. We look forward to seeing you there, Molly Collins |
