Shocker

Welcome to another edition of FT Now! We recognize there’s been a lot of disturbing news this week coming out of Washington. With that in mind, we’re continuing with our practice of rounding up a few of the top stories you may have missed from the states. For instance, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was targeted by CNN for...wait for it...daring to challenge one of the network’s reporters. Shocking, we know. Another new study confirms, once again, that Americans are fleeing blue states in droves. And in Montana, newly sworn-in Governor Greg Gianforte is making good on campaign promises with his new budget proposal. Read below for more!

CNN Anchor Calls Florida Governor an "Ass" on Live Television
What Happened:
CNN Host Brianna Keilar called GOP Governor Ron DeSantis an "ass" for committing the grave sin of challenging a CNN reporter and the mainstream media narrative about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Florida.
Why You Should Care:
The episode is just another example of the media’s bias about Republican lawmakers. Gov. DeSantis, for his part, responded to his critics by saying, "The number of times someone has come up to me with tears in their eyes saying 'if it wasn’t for you, my kid would not be in school and I would not have my job. Thank you.' That is why I’m in this job."
What Happens Next:
DeSantis continues to govern and do what’s best for his state - regardless of what CNN thinks!

New Study Finds Americans Fleeing Blue States In Droves For States Led By GOP Governors
What Happened:
A new study conifers a trend we’ve been watching for a while now: Americans are moving in droves from Democrat-run states to those led by Republican governors. In 2020, the top five states to experience the largest net-migration in the country were led by Republican governors: Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Arizona.
Why You Should Care:
The trend is proof positive that Americans really are getting fed up with high taxes, crippling regulations, and limited opportunity. In other words: Democrat policies in these states are failing. Full stop.
What Happens Next:
People are desperate to escape big-government approach pushed by liberal governors in states. Don’t expect that to change anytime soon!

Gov. Gianforte cuts taxes, invests in teacher pay, rewards job creation
What Happened:
Montana’s new Republican governor, Greg Gianforte, unveiled his budget proposal this week. It invests in teacher pay, cuts payrolls taxes, and still leaves about $450 million in reserves.
Why You Should Care:
Gianforte ran on promises like cutting taxes and reducing the size of government, and his budget proposal delivers. Promises made, promises kept.
What Happens Next:
Take it from Gianforte: "This is just a first step. As we find greater efficiencies in government and our economy continues to grow, we’ll continue to cut taxes and make Montana more competitive with our neighbors. Our goal is to continue cutting tax rates in incremental steps over time."
