Comrades!
As a global pandemic rages,
millions are being thrown into unemployment and uninsurance. The
cruelty of a for-profit healthcare system can no longer be tolerated.
We must make a stand for a basic moral truth: healthcare is a human
right!
That’s why DSA is building the
movement to win free,
comprehensive, and guaranteed quality healthcare for all Californians
this year. That starts with demanding Governor Newsom request a waiver
from the Biden Administration, allowing California to use federal
Medicare and Affordable Care Act money to set up a single-payer
system. Both Newsom and the incoming Secretary of Health & Human
Services, Xavier Becerra — who was appointed by Newsom as California
Attorney General, and who will now be the official to grant these
waivers — are on record as single-payer advocates, but only organized
working class pressure can force them to buck their billionaire donors
and stand by their words.
Over the past month, we’ve been
planning this as part of a statewide multi-organizational campaign,
decided upon and endorsed democratically within the Healthy California
Now coalition, and on Sunday we were the flagship co-sponsor to
launch, including premiering two videos from our chapter’s video
team!
We are calling on Newsom to deliver
on his promise and lead on Medicare for All. The petition has already
gotten more than 3200 signatures, with our chapter alone accounting
for 1600! Our goal is to get 10,000 signatures for East Bay DSA by
Inauguration Day, January 20. We need your help. Can you join our
