Friends,

When Bonnie and I first ran for the United States Senate in 2014, we did so because we saw two crises: a financial crisis and a global security crisis. We believed that we could make a difference and help change the direction of our country. With your support and your prayers, I believe we did just that.

In these last six years, we helped lead the greatest economic turnaround in American history that helped 6.5 million Americans pull themselves out of poverty. We rebuilt our military. We reengaged with our allies around the world. We stood up to China. We defeated ISIS. Finally, we created a pathway for peace and stability in the Middle East.

Right here in Georgia, our team delivered every day. We stood up for our farmers, got critical relief after Hurricane Michael, led the fight to finally deepen and expand the Port of Savannah, and fought every day to fully fund our military installations and the women and men in uniform and their families who all make the Peach State proud.

At the outset of the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, we moved quickly to bring historic relief to the state and saved 1.5 million Georgia jobs. Most importantly, we never stopped fighting for additional assistance and delivered it to the families, communities, and small businesses who needed it most. Now even more relief is on the way.

I am very proud of what we accomplished together. Team Perdue served this state – all eleven million Georgians – the right way and we always did it for the right reasons. I am extremely grateful for how our team in Georgia and Washington, D.C. fought every day to deliver real results for all Georgians – no matter their political party. Our constituent services team exceeded every expectation and improved the lives of thousands of veterans, families, and everyday Georgians, who in many cases had nowhere else to turn.

After winning the general election but missing the 50% threshold by just a few thousand votes, it now appears that we have come up short in this runoff election. Yesterday, I congratulated my opponent and the Democratic Party for their victory in this runoff.

This was an exceptionally close election – we knew it would be. And while the results are deeply disappointing, our campaign was powered by the people of Georgia and the ideas that helped improve the lives of our neighbors. This was about a cause far greater than ourselves. This was never about Bonnie or me, it was about future generations. It still is, and that's why Bonnie and I will never stop fighting.

To all those in this campaign who knocked a door, called a fellow Georgian, chipped in what they could, put up a yard sign, or supported our statewide bus tour, please know that you played a critical role in the most robust get-out-the-vote campaign in our state's history. It means more to Bonnie and me than you'll ever know. There aren't words to express my true thanks. I'll never forget what you've done for us, and for Georgia.

We will be forever grateful for the friendships we’ve made along this journey, and we know our work for the people of Georgia is far from over. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We left it all on the field. Keep your head held high. The fight for our state and our country isn't over.

Thank you and God bless you.

David
