Hi there -
Thank you to everyone who reached out with concern over the past few days. My staff and I were safe, and grateful for the outpouring of support.
Like many of you, I am angry and disgusted by what played out in the halls of the seat of our democracy on Wednesday. It was outrageous and unacceptable - and the president caused it. We should impeach and convict him as soon as possible.
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, I sent a letter with my colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee calling on Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Donald Trump from office.
And if he doesn't, then Congress should go ahead and impeach. My colleagues and I have also drafted and are currently circulating Articles of Impeachment. Time is of the essence, and we cannot afford to wait if we want to preserve our republic.
The guardrails of our democracy were dangerously tested this week - and we can't afford for Trump to keep stoking the anger of his supporters for even another two weeks.
A mob of pro-Trump domestic terrorists will not intimidate us. We will seek answers and demand justice. And we will welcome Joe Biden to the White House on January 20.
Last Wednesday night, Congress returned to our chambers and certified the election of Joe Biden. We were not swayed from our solemn duty to the voters.
And we'll keep fighting for the American people until the perpetrators of this devastating attack are held accountable.
