Good morning, friends.

Yesterday was a big day. The House announced that it was launching formal impeachment hearings into Trump's corrupt abuse of power. And our team announced that we'd set a goal to raise $40,000 by midnight Monday night. 

I'll admit that this was kind of a scary thing to come right out and say.

Usually, campaigns aren't as up front -- because the way the conventional wisdom works, there are usually calculations and political concerns and lots of overthinking involved. 

In this case, so the argument would go, we shouldn't be up front with our goal because if Roger Williams and his paid GOP consultants know how much we're trying to raise, they will just pad their numbers at the 11th hour with a transfer of a few hundred thousand dollars or so so from his personal PAC, so it doesn't look like an underdog campaign like ours is outraising him. We learned this one the hard way -- he's certainly done it before.

But we're not running a reactive campaign. We aren't going to let pettiness and politics define us. Our goals are proactive -- to build the positive future that we want to see.

And we believe in radical transparency -- our goal is ultimately very simple.

It doesn't involve a lot of slicing and dicing of the map -- we're going to continue to show up everywhere and talk to everyone.

There's no magical shortcut -- we're going to work our hearts out to bring real progressive change to Texas, putting in the work, wearing out our shoes.

And there's no secret formula -- we're going to register and turn out more voters than any Congressional campaign in Texas history. 

So you know I'm all in. You know I'm 100% committed to showing up and doing the work -- not just to flip this seat, but to continue to grow the progressive movement in Texas so we can achieve real wins for Texas and real lasting change for the country. It's why we felt strong enough to just come out and say what our goal was -- even if it was a little scary to do.
 

We're off to an incredible start, and it's because of the incredible generosity of everybody chipping in what they can to make this campaign possible.

We're going to show the world that you don't need PACs, joint fundraising committees, or a network of good ol' boys and fancy political insider connections to run a campaign for Congress.

And when we do, we will be making history.
