A conversation with Dr. Christine Grady During our Helping Children Soar Benefit last fall, Children’s Law Center honored Dr. Christine Grady and her husband, Dr. Anthony Fauci, as our 2020 Child Advocates. I had the pleasure of sitting down with them to discuss public health, policy and ethics decisions during the pandemic – and the impact these decisions have on children. Now, four months later, two vaccines are being administered across the country and more are in the pipeline for review and distribution. While the pandemic still rages, we are fighting to make sure all students are able to learn, and we are advocating for programs and services that reduce stress and trauma caused by the prolonged shutdown. 25th Anniversary Event Series: Ethics of a Vaccine January 28, 2021 at 12pm EST Join us on Thursday, January 28 at 12pm EST for the first Community Conversation of Children’s Law Center’s 25th anniversary year. We will hear from Dr. Christine Grady, an expert in the field of bioethics, human trials and vaccines, who will share the ethical considerations involved in the research and development, testing and distribution of a vaccine. We will also discuss what each of us can do—for ourselves, our families and our communities—to overcome the impact of COVID-19. Who: Dr. Christine Grady is the Chief of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center and Head of the Department’s Section on Human Subjects Research. Her research focuses on research subject recruitment, incentives, vulnerability and international research ethics. What: Drawing on her extensive experience in the field, Dr. Grady will explain some of the ethical questions that are raised by the COVID-19 vaccine process, such as subject trials and trials that safely involve children, how to best prioritize certain populations during distribution, and ways to build trust among demographics that have been exploited by medical research, including Black, LGBTQ and Indigenous communities. When: Thursday, January 28 at 12pm EST. How: Register today to receive a link to join and suggest questions for this conversation. Register I look forward to seeing you for this and many more events during our 25th anniversary year!
