A dangerous abuse of power entangling American security and foreign policy interests.

I wanted you to hear this directly from me.
This morning I called for Congress to open an impeachment proceeding into President Donald Trump. This is not a decision that I take lightly. But given this Administration’s continued stonewalling of congressional investigators, it is only through an impeachment inquiry that the facts will be fully aired.
I've taught ethics in government for over a decade, and I tell my students that our institutions only function because people of ethics and good faith make them work.
The current actions of the President may pose a national security risk and Congress can no longer delay the investigation. The President himself admits to asking the leader of a foreign country to investigate the son of a political rival. On its face, this is a dangerous abuse of power and is entangling American security and foreign policy interests to further the President’s own political agenda.
It appears that the President also tried to pressure Ukraine to take this action by withholding American military assistance. Both Republicans and Democrats in Congress approved this assistance to place a check on Russia and protect our national security. Finally, the President and his Administration have refused to release the whistleblower complaint about these allegations to Congress.
We have hit the point where we must put the security of our country, the rule of law, and the preservation of our democracy before any narrow political interests.
