Here is what we accomplished in 2020!

Dear Higb,

It's a new year! We hope 2021 brings better news and improved conditions for us all, but we also want to acknowledge the hard work our members put in to create change in 2020. Together, we redefined what it meant to be a Young Democrats club. Here are some highlights of the past year for BYD!
* Endorsed a slate of victorious progressive candidates for Congress, State Assembly, State Senate, District Leader, including Yvette Clarke, Andrew Gounardes, Emily Gallagher, Stefani Zinerman, Samy Nemir-Olivares, Jesse Pierce, and Kristina Naplatarski!
* Led a borough-wide effort ([link removed]) to suspend ballot petition challenges during the pandemic.
* Pushed for repeal of 50-A and police accountability.
* Joined the campaign to #CancelRent.
* Launched a Policy Committee, which you can join by emailing [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]?subject=I%20would%20like%20to%20participate%20in%20Policy%20Committee!) !
* Phone-banked in swing states for the Biden-Harris campaign and the Georgia runoffs.
* Helped with mutual aid efforts across the borough and city.
* Our President and Executive Director, Christina Das and Julia Elmaleh-Sachs, both attorneys, volunteered for voter protection efforts in the 2020 election.
* Fought for a fairer, inclusive, and accountable Brooklyn Democratic Party.
* Made our first endorsements - Crystal Hudson and Doug Schneider for City Council - for the 2021 election cycle!

This was a challenging year, and not just because of the pandemic and the most stressful presidential election of our lifetimes. BYD spoke out and led on issues important to progressives and young people in Brooklyn, sparking a backlash ([link removed]) from forces looking to maintain an unjust status quo.

This work isn't easy, but we know what we're capable of achieving when we have you with us.

If you haven't yet formally joined us, or need to renew your membership ([link removed]) , please take the time this weekend to do so. We appreciate all the time, effort, and support you've given us this year. We're now ready to take the fight into 2021!
On January 26 at 6:30 PM, BYD is hosting its first general body meeting of 2021! We will be hearing from candidates for Comptroller, Brooklyn Borough President, and the 37th Council District. Following the meeting, we will be voting on endorsements for those races as well as a runoff poll between Lincoln Restler and Elizabeth Adams, who we heard from last month.

All dues-paying members in good standing are eligible to vote.

Stay tuned to your inbox for the Zoom link! In the meantime, RSVP on Facebook ([link removed]) !
