"Democrats spent half a billion dollars to turn out white voters, 58 percent of whom ultimately ended up voting for Trump. Imagine if they'd spent a fraction of that money on communities of color."

An opinion piece in POLITICO Magazine makes the case that too many pundits are still thinking the wrong way about elections, specifically in Georgia. Democrats should not focus solely on "flipping" Trump voters (who may be unflippable) but on investing in outreach to communities of color instead.

There's plenty of hard statistical data validating this approach: as the piece finds, "according to the liberal think tank NDN, Georgia Black youth supported Biden 90 percent to 8 percent. White youth supported Trump 62 percent to 34 percent ... [and] according to Catalist, a voter data utility for the progressive community, it was Black voters who surged to repudiate Trump in Georgia."

That's nothing but encouraging. But what's less encouraging is this: runoffs usually evoke historically low turnout. Trump is riling up his base of supporters with continued lies about voter fraud. And Democrats must reassemble a historic coalition in record time -- as Vox News quite simply reports: "That's no guarantee Ossoff and Warnock can replicate Biden's success."

We want to fight to the last anyway. We want to turn out every voter of color in GA with messaging that speaks to their priorities, values, and future. We want a blue Senate under Biden and a Democratic trifecta next year.
