John,

As 2020 draws to a close, we are grateful to every one of you for helping North Carolinians Against Gun Violence’s work to make our state safer. Our work would be impossible without you.

As our 2020 fundraising campaign ends, can you chip in to help us reach our end of year goal of $9,000? All donations made by Dec. 31 will be doubled due to a generous donor matching all 2020 gifts dollar for dollar!

Our 2021 goals include:

  • Securing funding for a statewide educational campaign and distribution of free gun locks. One in three NC parents own a gun and one in four of those guns are unsecured. Locking up a gun prevents accidental shootings, suicide and theft. Suicides account for two-thirds of NC gun deaths.
  • Continuing to work with health care providers to create and implement protocols for talking to patients about safe storage and giving out free gun locks.
  • Stopping dangerous legislation from making it to the governor’s desk. Some at the General Assembly have sought to arm teachers, dismantle our pistol purchase permitting system, allow 18 year olds with no training and no background checks to carry concealed and permit people to carry concealed at religious places of worship associated with schools. We have fought off these dangerous bills in the past and will continue to do so in 2021.

  • Securing funding for community-based violence interrupter and hospital-based violence intervention programs.
    • Community-based Violence Interrupter programs, where community peers work locally to prevent gun violence and connect people who have experienced violence with social services that will help with trauma and improve their lives.
    • Hospital-based Violence Intervention programs involve a multidisciplinary team including hospital staff and community leaders. Together, they work with hospital patients who have experienced violence to break the cycle of gun violence, and - like community-based violence interrupter programs - they connect people with social services.

Clearly, we have an ambitious 2021 agenda. We can only do this work because of generous supporters like you. Please consider making a year end gift to NCGV to reduce gun violence throughout NC.

Thank you for your support,
Becky
