Dear John,

In the tumultuous history of our nation, 2020 is one for the record books. If you’re feeling embattled, you’re not alone. The good news? You’re also not alone in fighting to build a more equitable, sustainable, and hopeful America.

ASBC worked harder than ever this year, even as this administration’s opposition to all of the values we hold dear was only heightened by its failure to show leadership in this pandemic. ASBC members, supporters and staff kept the faith and pinched pennies to continue making the unique business case for people, planet and profit. ASBC’s game-changing accomplishments in 2020 are seeded throughout our struggling economy. Let me offer just a few examples.

While the White House offered no direction or guidance to combat the virus, ASBC worked tirelessly to advocate with federal policy makers on behalf of businesses and employees, while drafting a report to remake an “Economy that Works for All.” We also led an effort by nearly 60 organizations to create a concrete action plan for safely reopening state and local governments. In the wake of police murders of black citizens like George Floyd and Breanna Taylor, ASBC organized business around efforts to curb police immunity and support equal justice, while we revitalized our Race & Equity Working Group. ASBC President David Levine worked with dozens of scientific and advocacy groups to produce the definitive Childhood Cancer Report tracing the high incidence of environmental factors we can control to prevent this devastating disease. When the Labor Department tried to cut ESG funds out of federal pension investments, we mobilized opposition from over 400 individuals and businesses. ASBC Executive Vice President and former Obama administration official Thomas Oppel, who serves on the national steering committee for the Paid Leave for All Coalition, helped our hardworking team build strong grassroots movements for paid leave this fall in the key states of Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

All these initiatives will grow to their lifesaving, world-changing full potential – if you can help us now. Please make a donation to ASBC by Dec. 31. We’re ramping up our fight for comprehensive Covid-19 relief, a restored commitment to the Paris Climate Accord, a green infrastructure program starting now (not someday), and more. Especially to make up for the last four years, ASBC is supercharging our efforts to demand our government support what your business and other American stakeholders need to thrive.

More decision-makers will listen in 2021, but we’ll still have to step up and speak up!
Your contribution now really matters to how much progress we make in 2021. And for some things, from small business cash flow to climate, time is running out.

Like you, we believe in the power of business to advance an equitable and sustainable economy. In fact, we think business can help save the world. But we can’t do it without you. Please support ASBC’s game-changing efforts with your donation by Dec. 31. We’ll work overtime to make it a sound investment.

Meanwhile, all of us at ASBC wish you and yours an inspiring, restorative holiday season. This year especially, you’ve earned it!

And let me be the first to wish you a resilient, safe and healthy new year!

With admiration and deep thanks,
