Hi Democrat,

A State Department watchdog investigating Trump Secretary of State Mike Pompeo found that Pompeo used taxpayer dollars to fund his wife’s trips around the world -- and he didn’t think it necessary to seek, or document, the legally required approval for the trips.

This abuse of power sets a dangerous precedent, but it isn’t uncharacteristic for one of Trump’s enablers in chief. During Trump’s four years in power, Pompeo has used taxpayer dollars to wine and dine a number of far-right donors for his future political ambitions while slashing the budget for his department. He pressured Pentagon officials into giving him a government-owned house. He even gave a prime-time address to the Republican National Convention during a taxpayer-funded trip to Jerusalem.

And when the inspector general attempted to investigate these abuses? Pompeo had Trump fire him.

Donald Trump’s cronies think they’re above the law. Pompeo has refused to even be interviewed in an ongoing investigation into his misuse of taxpayer resources. And according to POLITICO, he’s not preparing for jail time, he’s preparing for a 2024 presidential run.

 

 Already, too many Americans are ready to overlook Trump’s, Pompeo’s, and a number of other loyalists’ crimes if they go away quietly -- and Trump’s cronies know organizations like ours that want to hold them accountable struggle to get the resources they need to make an impact.

 

We know you don’t want to see the crooks who’ve wreaked havoc on our democracy for four years get away scot-free -- and we don’t either. But if we’re going to hold these democracy attackers accountable, we’ll need your help. Please, will you contribute anything you can today to repudiate Mike Pompeo and the rest of Trump’s loyalists and ensure they are held accountable past Inauguration Day?
