Bill Barr is now leaving the White House after Trump mused about firing him -- and there’s rampant and credible speculation that Barr’s refusal to tamper with the election by feeding the president’s lies about voter fraud or his attacks on the Biden family is the reason for his departure.
We’re glad to see Barr go, and we’ll be even happier to watch his boss do the same in January. However, there’s something about Barr’s departure that has us worried: his replacement.
Trump is living in a fantasy land when it comes to the election results. But the fact is, he’s still president until January 20, 2021. And despite all the despicable things Barr did while in the AG’s office in the name of loyalty to Trump, he still couldn’t cut it. What will Barr’s replacement have to be willing to do in order to get the job?
It’s a guarantee that Trump wants to reward a top donor, lackey, or loyalist with the Attorney General job -- and that whoever Trump chooses will fully buy into the president’s conspiracy theories on illegal ballots and Hunter Biden. Barr’s replacement could use the Justice Department to try to damage Joe Biden’s nascent presidency at Trump’s request; we’re sure that’s exactly what the 45th president wants from his top lawyer right now.
We need to brace ourselves for whatever Barr’s replacement does next. For that, we’d like your help.
