Friend,

The tragic deaths of servicemembers at Fort Hood this year, including Vanessa Guillen’s senseless murder, put the spotlight on the military’s lack of accountability and disregard for its personnel in reported cases of sexual harrassment, sexual assault and violence by fellow soldiers.

As part of the fight to strengthen protections and bring justice to victims, Henry called for a full independent investigation to track incidents, review officials at every rank, and make a plan to implement changes that will prevent further harm to servicemembers.

In July, Henry added language to the Defense Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2021 to ensure a review is conducted on the Defense Department’s policy for reporting sexual assault and its effectiveness in protecting victims, as well as holding offenders accountable.

Since then, 14 Army officials, including high-ranking leaders, have been fired or suspended as part of the ongoing investigation into the culture and climate at Fort Hood. Major flaws were uncovered and some action has been taken, but justice for victims and their families has yet to be served.

It’s so important that you and your communities stay involved in calling on protections for servicemembers at military bases around the country and accountability in the Defense Department that has allowed for the preventable deaths of soldiers on American soil.

Friend, please sign our petition to demand justice for victims and their families, thorough investigation and action to prevent another senseless tragedy from happening at Fort Hood and other military bases around the country. [[link removed]]
