Hi there,
According to NBC News, fourteen groups that are "actively promoting hateful ideologies, whether through literature, online content or grassroots organizing," received more than $4 million in pandemic relief aid under the Paycheck Protection Program.
Among the groups' missions? Advocating so-called conversion therapy, promoting immigration policy that will "keep the country white," and opposing a "homosexual agenda."
The president of a government watchdog group said it best: "It is hard to find a clearer example of the Trump administration's warped priorities than allowing countless mom-and-pop shops to go under without proper relief while bailing out wealthy and well-connected anti-LGBTQ enterprises on Americans' dime."
And yet, as it stands, these groups are nonprofit advocacy organizations who fall under the current criteria for PPP loans -- and many have disputed their hate group designation as a "mischaracterization." Today, we'll let you decide. Do you approve of where your taxpayer dollars are going?
Should accused hate groups receive pandemic relief aid?
