New York’s restaurant industry has been left reeling in the wake of Gov. Cuomo’s decision to once again shut down indoor dining.
 
“For months, New York City’s restaurant owners have warned that their businesses, many of which operate on tight margins in the best of times, are on the edge of collapse. Thousands of employees, many of them low-wage workers, have been laid off since March, and their jobs have yet to fully return,” according to The New York Times.
 
New York’s not the only state with a struggling restaurant industry, though. The Times reports that “few workers have stood more directly in the path of the pandemic than the roughly 10 million people employed by restaurants at the start of the year. The industry shed close to half those jobs in March and April, and was still down almost 1.5 million as of October.”
 
Despite repeated calls for federal or state financial assistance, the restaurant industry has been left without the relief it so desperately needs.
