Today is World Rhino Day, yet this ancient species faces severe threats. Unchanged for 50 million years, today as few as 29,000 remain.
Illegal hunting for horn has rocketed due to demand in Asia – for status symbol gifts and medicine. Yet horn is made of keratin with no medical value.
You’ll be horrified, but if you pay enough you can even legally hunt a rhino, post a picture next to their dead body, then display their head on your wall.
Born Free is determined to stop the slaughter. Our team at a recent big trade meeting in Geneva fought for rhinos, with good outcomes and bad.
