John,
The American people aren’t asking for a handout. They’re asking their government to help them survive a once-in-a-century pandemic that their President and Republicans in Congress made worse.
Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are holding COVID-19 relief negotiations hostage. They must come to the negotiating table in good faith to pass a bill that provides relief for the American people.
Unless Congress takes action, several critical pandemic benefits will expire by the end of this month, including the eviction moratorium and extended unemployment benefits.
Letting these provisions expire without additional direct payments would be disastrous for our country. I don’t know how Mitch McConnell sleeps at night, knowing that his inaction will leave hundreds of thousands of Americans hungry and homeless in the height of the pandemic.
The American people will need help recovering from this pandemic and economic crisis when the next Congress starts in January — and I’ll get to work as soon as I’m sworn in.
But the American people can’t wait for help until then. Congress must act now. The direct cash payments that Americans need aren’t “stimulus” checks, they are survival checks.
Thank you for making your voice heard.
Onward,
Mondaire
