HiJohn,We had a wonderful December Chapter Meeting on Sunday — for those of you who missed it, here are some highlights:We passed a bylaws amendment that gives local groups an official structure, a resolution to seek to acquire new zip codes, and a resolution to join Housing Now, a group fighting evictions. We also introduced three items for an online vote: a bylaws amendment creating notice requirements for resolutions, a resolution to join Voice for Public Transportation, and a resolution to work with other groups towards Medicare for All. Ballots will be sent to members who attended the chapter meeting. If you didn’t attend, or don’t get one on Sunday, December 20th, fill out a ballot request. We discussed the results of our chapter survey and the position papers submitted by members on issues ranging from chapter structure to antiracism to building capacity and more. Our chapter survey will remain open for additional feedback, so please submit if you haven’t already! We still have committee, working group, and officer vacancies. Nominate yourself or a comrade. Voting will be open until Tuesday, December 22nd at 11:59 pm.In solidarity,Your SV DSA Newsletter TeamUpdatesDefunding the PoliceOur local Fremont group showed up in force at the recent city council meeting to oppose the building of more police substations — and won! However, many city council members voiced that they were still in favor of increasing funds to the police, just not through substations, so we’ll need to continue showing up in the future.Showing Up Like Captain PlanetThe ecosocialist working group spoke up at a Board meeting of the Metropolitan Water District to oppose continuing the Delta Tunnel project, and we’ve also been invited to speak at the Yolo DSA about ecosocialism. At our next meeting, we’ll be drafting a 6-month steering plan to establish what activities and priorities we’ll be working on. If you’re interested in speaking out to protect the environment, or managing our garden plot, come to our meeting on Sunday, December 20th at 6pm.Housing CoalitionThe Housing Working group is participating in a Bay Area coalition that will coordinate actions around evictions, rent relief, and housing folks in vacant properties. This coalition involves DSA chapters, tenant organizations from the East Bay, Hotels not Hospitals from SF, and South Bay Mutual Aid. This work is especially important as the eviction moratorium could end as soon as January, so if you're interested, contact the housing working group on Slack to get involved!Unions 101The labor working group is working on modifying their Unions 101 training to be a readily available resource for anyone wanting to learn how to organize their workplace. We’re looking for people to facilitate “train the trainers” events and build out the presentation in an easily digestible format (no labor organizing experience necessary!). Join the labor working group meeting on Sunday, December 27th at 4:30pm to help.Socialist Feminist VideosThe SocFem working group is almost done with our Crisis Pregnancy Center expose! We’re working on a webpage to post the final video along with some resources. We’re also working on a Domestic Violence Exose. If you have video editing skills or experience with domestic violence crisis counseling, come to the weekly Tuesday meetings at 7pm to get involved!Upcoming EventsHatching chick🐣 means newbie-friendly!General meetings are marked with a🌹 rose.WG stands for Working Group. For more events, check out ourcalendar: [link removed] 12/157-9pDomestic Violence Exposé: [link removed] 12/167-8:30pChapter Cmte: [link removed] 12/167:30-9p#DefundThePolice: MP, EPA + PA: [link removed] 12/176-8pTech Cmte: [link removed] 12/186-6:45pComms Cmte: [link removed] 12/187-8p🐣Social Hour: [link removed] 12/187-9pHealthcare WG: [link removed] 12/1910a-12pComms Work Session: [link removed] 12/192-4p🐣New Member Orientation: [link removed] 12/2010a-12pComms Work Session: [link removed] 12/2011a-12:30pMutual Aid Check-In: [link removed] 12/202-4p🐣Chapter Work Session: [link removed] 12/206-7pEcosocialist WG: [link removed] 12/207-8pAMP Cmte: [link removed] is a membership organization. As a member, you can vote at our local meetings and run for leadership roles.
