Here's why the next few weeks will be daunting for Democrats: In the next 50 days, we've got key special elections happening deep in Republican territory.

On October 8th and November 5th, voters in three states head to the polls for a gauntlet of special elections -- all in states with Republican governors. These governors have the power to sign or veto pivotal legislation -- women's rights, LGBTQ equality, environmental regulations -- with the stroke of a pen. The upcoming special elections give us a chance to turn the tide and stand up to regressive GOP officials -- and make big gains even before we reach 2020.

I need to be brutally honest with you: We could lose every single one of those races. All of the momentum we've fought so hard for could go back to Trump and the Republicans, putting us right back where we started on January 20th, 2017.
