Feeling like a failure? You need to learn to be kinder to yourself. |
The cold, short days, quarantine blues, the seemingly distant vaccine rollout, and, just to pile it on, holiday stressors make for one slog of winter for everyone. We can all only take it one day at a time, but even then the stresses can crush us — and our families will suffer in step. It’s a cliché at this point, but no less right: You need to put the oxygen mask on yourself first. Only then can you take care of those who depend on you. This means you need to find time for yourself.
Self-care comes in many forms. Meditation, therapy, running, and yoga are all fantastic ways to reset and check in with yourself. But so is the nightly unwind. Hanging with friends on Zoom, playing games with your partner or checking out a good movie and having a beer or consuming cannabis while doing it is a great way to relax, unwind, and reset before you wake to do it all again tomorrow. If it works, it works. Do it for you. The rest of your family will thank you for it. |
