+ City Council endorsement meeting on Tuesday!

Dear Higb,

This week, following a court order, a meeting of the Kings County Democratic Committee has been called for Wednesday, December 16, at 12:00 PM. The meeting will be held digitally.

We urge all BYD members who are also members of the County Committee to attend or assign their proxy to another member they trust. You may have read yesterday's court ruling ([link removed]) invalidating a brazen attempt by party leaders to stack the committee in their favor. This means the possibility for much-needed change is great.

It is important that you do not simply sign away your proxy to anyone who asks or sends you a pre-filled card in the mail.

BYD's leadership has decided to following rule changes, and we encourage members of the County Committee to approve them. They are the following:

* Require the use of Robert's Rules of Order at meetings, so everyone has a fair chance to speak;
* Limit the number of proxies one person can hold and allow proxies to be submitted by e-mail, to make it harder for party leadership or any one person to control large numbers of votes;
* Require changes to Party rules to be made by a majority vote of the County Committee or unanimous vote of the Executive Committee, so that Party leadership does not continue to pass rules that are solely meant to consolidate their power;
* Strengthen financial governance of the Party, in order to ensure that its financial woes do not continue and it has resources to spend on engaging members and defeating Republicans;
* Restore the second annual County Committee meeting, which Party leadership voted to cancel earlier this year, so that County Committee members have more opportunities to gather and engage; and
* Repeal the rule passed a couple months ago that causes County Committee members' votes to default to their District Leaders if they do not attend a meeting. County Committee members should have the right to affirmatively choose who, if anyone, their proxy goes to.
