In case you missed it friend: in a historic move, the House voted to decriminalize marijuana.
Here is the bad news: despite immense public support for decriminalization and even legalization, the bill is likely to die due to Senate Republicans’ inability and unwillingness to understand the interests of their constituents.
Here at The Southern Strategy, we know this bill is not enough to fully address the damage done to BIPOC communities by the War on Drugs and continued era of mass incarceration, but it is a necessary first step.
If we want to make the progress on a federal level that many states have done themselves — legalizing marijuana, expunging records, releasing people from prison, and investing in local communities who have been targeted by aggressive drug laws — then we start by demanding the Senate pass this bill.
