Announcement: Brand New Congress proudly announces that Mike Seigel in Texas’ 10th District is joining our 2020 slate!

Mike Siegel is a former public school teacher and civil rights lawyer. He has served the people of Texas’ 10th Congressional District for over two decades as an educator, and then an advocate for his clients.

Education has always been an emphasis for Mike. He joined the AmeriCorps national civil service program and began teaching 3rd graders as a Teach for America member in 1999. Mike taught in classrooms for five years and later founded two nonprofit education agencies. Nearly 20 years later Mike continues to provide free after-school and summer programs to hundreds of children across his community.

Mike later became an employment lawyer, representing women who suffer discrimination in the workplace. Most recently, he served as an Austin city attorney, where he represented the city in lawsuits against the State of Texas on behalf of immigrant families, firefighters, low-income renters, and constituents in support of common sense gun regulations.

The 2020 run isn’t Mike’s first race. He ran a fierce campaign in 2018 against Republican Michael McCaul. McCaul was Chairman of the Committee for the Department of Homeland Security where he has touted his Trumpian immigration policies. McCaul is also backed by the NRA, so it’s no surprise this incumbent continues to ignore calls from his constituents to pass common sense gun legislation.

It’s time for a change in Texas’ 10th District and in 2018 Mike’s race showed just what was possible. Mike won nearly 47% of the vote, and his race showcases that people across the country are ready for change. In 2020, we’ve seen that Mike has the network and grassroots support to reach more voters for a big win in Texas!

He’s running in 2020 to continue the fight for healthcare care for all, workers’ rights, education reform, criminal justice reform, clean air and clean water, accountability for corrupt officials.
