Hmmm, I Wonder…

What to Know: A San Francisco Business Times reporter recently explained why so many California businesses and residents are moving to Texas. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: It’s all about opportunity.

“Californians are moving to Texas, attracted to the Lone Star State by jobs and opportunity,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore, who came to Texas after serving in the California Assembly. “Now it’s incumbent upon us—both native Texans and transplants—to ensure that Texas remains that beacon of freedom and prosperity.”

Protecting Migrants—and the Border

What to Know: Vice President Joe Biden has pledged to revoke the Migrant Protection Protocols that served to secure the southern U.S. border under President Trump. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: The MPP was key to protecting the border.

“The reality is that before MPP, hundreds of thousands of people from Central America and elsewhere overwhelmed the capacities of federal border authorities and detention facilities, and gained access into the United States simply by claiming a credible fear of political persecution, even though the vast majority of them lacked a valid claim for asylum,” says TPPF’s John Hostettler. “Revoking the MPP will undo all of the gains we’ve made and could attract new migrant caravans.”

Who Gets Hurt?

What to Know: A New York Post editorial points out that the poor ([link removed] ) —including those experiencing homelessness—are harmed most when the police are defunded.

The TPPF Take: Defunding the police isn’t the answer. Developing better police officers is. ([link removed] )

“The last thing we want to do is defund the police,” says TPPF’s Currie Myers, a retired sheriff. “That doesn’t mean there aren’t things we can do better. Everyone needs to work together to ensure that law enforcement is a positive part of government.”
