** Getting the Best for Hastings and Rye
------------------------------------------------------------

Whenever new funding is discussed in government, I make it my mission to ensure that constituents of Hastings and Rye get the best possible deal from it.

Following my discussions with Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick, I am delighted that Hastings and Rye will be getting a new £25 million boost for transport and infrastructure as part of the government’s towns fund.

Amber in Hastings Town Centre

The new money will help regenerate our local areas, help improve local transport and boost the town in a positive way. It’s no secret that seaside towns like Hastings were left behind during times of recession by previous Labour Governments, but I am delighted that this deserved funding will provide a new sense of optimism and real change for everyone in Hastings.

On top of this, we’re seeing more money announced for our local councils as part of the government’s spending review - East Sussex County Council will be better funded to deal with the needs of social care and Hastings Borough Council will get access to an additional £56 million fund designed to help get rough sleepers off the streets and into housing. Per pupil funding is also increasing which will mean further improvements to the schools in our towns.

Whenever government money is available I’ll make the case for Hastings so we can spend more on improving public services and quality of life for people. The transformative investment of the towns fund will go towards improving transport links, infrastructure, technology, culture, and skills of people in Hastings.

Yours sincerely,
Amber Rudd MP
Hastings and Rye
