Dear Friend,
Earlier this week, construction on the Line 3 tar sands oil pipeline began in Minnesota, over the objections of multiple tribal nations, young people, climate advocates, and local doctors caring for COVID patients. Yesterday, the Giniw Collective launched a tree sit along the route to defend the headwaters of the Mississippi River and the land and water of the Anishinaabe people.
Projects like Line 3 rely on funding from Wall Street to operate, so young people across the continent are joining forces to use our unique power to say we refuse to let our money be used to the destruction of our climate and communities.
Tune in to the Youth Power in Divestment Webinar hosted by Not My Dirty Money on Sunday, December 6th at 4pm PST / 7pm EST.
We will hear stories from youth from across the country who are fighting various pipelines through a variety of direct action tactics. We will also be in conversation with young organizers about how they empower their communities in solidarity with the frontlines to advocate for climate justice and dismantle systems that continue to put profits before people.
Chase Bank is one of the largest funders of fossil fuels on earth, with direct connections to the Line 3 and Keystone XL pipelines. Young people have the power to make their voices heard and push banks like Chase to divest, and bring an end to pipelines and the environmental, patriarchal, and cultural violence that they bring.
Tune in on December 6th to hear from young people fighting pipelines and leading divestment work in their communities, school systems, and college campuses. By the end of the call, you’ll have more resources, information, and inspiration in your toolbox to fight for a more just world. Join us in taking the first step to divest from Wall Street and big banks like Chase who are poisoning the water we drink and the air we breathe, and reinvesting in the community-based solutions we need.
In solidarity,
Akilah Sanders-Reed, Oil Free Organizer at the Power Shift Network
